Battery Systems for Underwater Vehicles |
|
REAPsystems contribution REAPsystems is currently working with a major manufacturer of underwater vehicles. Production of a 310V, 40Ah prototype battery for a new autonomous ROV has been completed within the tight schedule. REAPsystems provided off the shelf BMS's, system integration and necessary consultancy, including a 25/7 hot-line and emergency service. Preparation is now underway for the production of complete battery systems. |

Key challenges of the project Due to the small vehicle size it is necessary to have a small battery system. The BMS must have a low power consumption as the vehicle is out of use for long periods of time whilst above water. REAPsystems worked closely with the customer to ensure reliability and safety of the battery system when the vehicle is submerged. Viewing the remaining energy available before deploying the vehicle is also essential. Extensive support was given to the customer and it is necessary that this support and replacement of components can continue throughout the vehicles life. The project is featured in the current Venture magazine and the article can be viewed online. |
