Hybrid transformation - by Stevie Knight

September 2016

The article reports on a Venice water taxi "on the way to being transformed from a dirty, exhaust-belching anachronism into a robust, high-tech hybrid", followed by a deeper insight into technical challenges to obtain flexibility, reliability and easy operation of the REAPsystems' hybrid drive system.

Following the article about Project Venice published on Daily Echo print newspaper on 26/04/2016, again we featured on Daily Echo both print and e-newspaper, this time with our crowdfunding initiative. Supporters are invited to donate just £100 to be part of the test run process themselves when it takes place in Southampton in August 2016.

"(...) These watercraft are all equipped with diesel engines that spew exhaust and make a racket, creating both air and noise pollution. With this situation in mind, engineers from University of Southampton spin-off company REAPsystems are developing hybrid engines that could be swapped in."

Hybrid drive taxi boats for Venice lagoon - by LoToNo news

January 2016

At the very initial stage of Project Venice, REAPsystems gratefully received financial support from Fareham based LoToNo Team. The LoToNo Innovation Voucher did enable us to afford a good quality second-hand 'water taxi' from Venice and get it shipped to the UK awaiting design and installation of the hybrid drive. “LoToNo support allowed us to bring this work forward and kick start the move from theory to practice, and we are really excited to be close to a working hybrid taxi-boat operating in the Venice Lagoon,” said Dr Dennis Doerffel, our CTO.
